War of the Worlds
The war of the worlds project proved to be a very insightful one. Imagineering my own interpretation of the tripod proved very difficult considering the amout on existing material on the subject. Creating an original concept and design proved far more challenging than expected.
When researching tripod design and other relevant war of the worlds artwork, there were alot of recurring design features; metallic, futuristic and technological aesthetics. To put my own spin on the franchise, I hoped to develop a much more organic shape for the tripod, developing a monster which is founded in natural, relevant elements rather than the abstract, flawless metal we commonly associate with war of the worlds.
Considering I have not used super sculpey or physical modelling on a regular basis I am very pleased with the results I was able to achieve, although in hindsight I would do a number of things differently to improve the overall quality of the model. Firstly, I would lower the scale of the sculpt, so i can focus much more attention towards detail and proportion and secondly I would ensure my wire armature recieves much more preperation, to ease the entire modelling process. Overall I am pleased with results, but would like an opportunity to improve it.
