Influencers

INFLUENCERS TRAILER from R+I creative on Vimeo.

Influence is an important element in any artists career. It defines how you see the world in a creative manner. Your interests, behaviours and ethics are strongly controlled by things that influence you, yet what makes something an influencer?

The documentary tackles influencers in terms of people, figures and icons, yet when discussing such an ambiguous topic, the term influence has a much broader spectrum. Personally I believe that influence doesn't just manifest inside peoples minds and is limited to the ideas and dreams of particular individuals. Everything we surround ourselves with, whether we know it or not, has an influence over our daily lives. Our Parents, our environment, our education all direct our interests in different directions. Throughout the journey of childhood we are consistently being propelled through a vast amount of influential stimulus, whether its the actions of those around us that inspire us to be something more, or the beauty of the surrounding environment which make us want to change the world. We may never even be aware of our influences until we look back in hindsight and evaluate how we got here. Human intuition and instinct directs us subconsciously because on the surface we can never grasp or admit the influence upon our decisions.

The documentary provides us with but a flavour of how things can influence our lives, not only creatively but on a whole. We seek inspiration everywhere, and most commonly it is received from those that influence us. For me, exploring this topic has provided me with insight and motivation to become an influencer myself. I have been inspired to get creative, why not shed some light for someone else? And its quotes like this which give you the desire to seek your dreams:

"You have to trust in something; your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. You've got to find what you love. Keep looking. Don't settle. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is the results of living with other peoples thinking. Don't let the noise of other peoples opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. everything else is secondary."
